Drag the Vote

Become a Drag the Vote ambassador!

Drag is queer culture. Drag is art. Drag is political. Drag challenges gender norms, pushes the envelop and dares to dream of a world free of homophobia and transphobia.

In Canada today, drag culture is under attack. The queer community is under attack. Far right groups and power-hungry politicians are using misinformation and fear to turn queer rights into a wedge issue. The attacks started with the trans community, but there are already signs that they will not stop there. If they succeed, Canada will be less free, less equal and less safe for our community.

Educating the public and getting our people out to vote will be critical this election. That’s why Queer Momentum is recruiting drag performers like you to participate in our Drag the Vote campaign as Drag Ambassadors.

About Drag the Vote

Powered by the Society of Queer Momentum, Drag the Vote is an initiative led by drag performers in Canada who want to help mobilize their fans, 2SLGBTQIA+ people and allies in the next federal election. At this time, our focus is recruiting drag ambassadors across the country. As the election approach, we'll launch our public Drag the Vote campaign.

Become a Drag Ambassador

Become a Drag Ambassador, and help us lift up the voices of queer people in the next federal election.

What is being a Drag Ambassador all about?

  • Use our platforms - Using your social media and gigs to tap your friends,
fans and family into queer advocacy and take the Pledge to Vote.
  • Spread the Message - Reposting and sharing Drag The Vote’s educational
and advocacy materials on social media where relevant.
  • Be Visible - Be included on our website and related materials as one of our
    drag ambassadors

What's the commitment?

We will make participation easy, working with you to design custom content. There will be opportunities for greater involvement for those interested (we have big dreams of Drag the Vote shows in the leadup to the election), but the baseline commitment is just a few hours of your time to support content creation.

Why us? Why now?

So much is at stake for queer people and drag performers in the upcoming federal election. Hate towards our community is on the rise. Power-hungry politicians are using queerness and drag to spread fear and stigma. In response, we need to bring our community out to vote!

You - as drag performers - are leaders in our community. You have a platform into and beyond the queer world. That’s why we need your help - so we can help our community understand what’s at stake, and get them to the voting booth on election day.

Who is organizing this?

This program is under the direction of Fae Johnstone, Alberta Drag Queen Karla Marx, Nova Scotia Drag Queen Elle Noir and Saskatchewan Drag King Ford Ranjer, and is operating through the Society of Queer Momentum, which works across Canada to promote the well-being, equality and rights of the queer community.

What’s the process to become a Drag Ambassador?

Fill out this form and we’ll be in touch! Once you’re a part of the program, we’ll work with you to spread the word, and send you everything you need to tap in!

Drag the Vote FAQ

Drag the Vote is a non-partisan initiative aimed at bringing queer people and allies out to vote. Working with our ambassadors and communications team, we'll share ongoing content on the @QueerMomentum social media, all of which you are welcome - but not required - to share. Our specific ask for drag performers is that they 1) work with us to create and share a socials post aimed at encouraging their audience to pledge to vote in the 2025 federal election, 2) when our content resonates with them, that they re-share this content on their socials, and 3) consider plugging the Drag the Vote at events in the leadup to the election. We will work with you at every step to help.

No. Drag the Vote is a non-partisan (but staunchly progressive) initiative. We will not ask drag ambassadors to share partisan content, or to support a specific political party or candidate. Queer Momentum will share analysis and criticism (where relevant) of specific political parties and politicians - ambassadors are welcome to amplify this content but it will not be included as part of the Drag the Vote initiative.

All content sharing is on an opt-in basis. While we ask that all ambassadors are willing to share a minimum of one post (announcing their participation as an ambassador) all additional content is optional. If you do not agree with a piece of content, we understand! We also welcome your feedback. We want to work with you to make this initiative a success.

Yes. We encourage drag performers to get directly involved with political parties or candidates they believe in! Participation in this initiative does not stop or limit your involvement in partisan activities. The only caveat is: as we are a non-partisan initiative, please do not use the Drag the Vote brand, hashtag or messaging in partisan posts or activities.

Participation in Drag the Vote is on a volunteer basis, but we want to uplift you and build your profile through this initiative. As a drag ambassador, you will be featured and uplifted as a community leader on the Queer Momentum social media. We will also work with you to encourage local media coverage of your story and message. We anticipate national and local media interest in this initiative.

We will also provide you with everything you need to participate - including a custom Drag the Vote t-shirt, signage and related materials.
